8 Days tour from Marrakech to desert

Tour Overview

This 8 days Marrakech desert tour, start from Marrakech into the high Atlas hills passing via Ouarzazate as much as Erg Chebbi Desert. Kasbah of Ait benhaddou, Kasbah Telouat… Ouarzazate (The Hollywood Of Africa) & Atlas studio in Roses Valley which is the Second Largest Photographic Studio on The Continent Horn. This is our tour from Davids Valley to Tenghir, then we will drive down to the desert of Merzouga where you will enjoy a camel trekk after spending an overnight in Dades gorge. After breakfast, we will continue our trip to Marrakech differently before Wherewe make some stops in the Rissani Markt, Tazarine, Nkob Dara Valley and Ouarzazate finally at night arriving again in Marrakech. Overnight in the Berber tents deep into the dunes.

Itinerary

On the first day of the 8 day Morocco desert tour, an early morning pick up will be given from the airport or your hotel anywhere in Marrakech. Then drive through the fascinating High Atlas mountains, and Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Short that will be made to capture the views of the stunning scenery looking back. We see the Kasbah of Telouat and proceed to look for the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a feudal bastion.

Then we travel onwards to the famous kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou which is a fortified village of feudal style included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Also, the Kasbah has been featured in numerous films such as: Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy etc. Also television programs like the Game Of Thrones. After which we go to “The gate of the desert” Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

After breakfast, we delve into the town of Ouarzazate. First up, we head to the Atlas studios which produced many popular films and the Taourirt Kasbah -A defensive mud building and one of the oldest as well as most beautiful Ksars in Morocco. Followed by a drive to the East to see the Amridil Kasbah which is nestled within palm trees in the center of Skoura. Then drive further to Kalaa Magouna also known for the Rose valley. An annual Rose Festival takes place in the month of May where local people exhibit their rose related products, including oils, perfume, rose water and cosmetic products. Then we head towards the Dades valley to Boumalne Dades. Making the obligatory stops at the rock formations called ‘monkey fingers’ and that one place on a mound overlooking Dades valley . Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Boumalne Dades.

After strengthening with breakfast, our route continues to Todra Gorges, here the Todra river bears the hallmark of a broad cut through mountain ranges – This has created lofty tall red cliffed scuba diving. Do wander in the gorges and do not forget to enjoy the scenery. Then drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad. There is free time for lunch in the middle of this journey. By the afternoon we reach Sahara desert Merzouga. Here is where you change to the camels in order to cross the sand desert. A halt will be made for you to see the wonderful sunset from the top of one of the tall sand dunes. This is followed by a drive to the luxuriously furnished desert camp. Where the berber drum playing is done within the circle of dancing around the camp fire from where the millions of twinkling starts can be seen on the opened night sky. Dinner and overnight at the tent.

Although getting up early to embrace the enchanting view of the sunrise in the desert is for sure a good bonus. Free time for having the breakfast. Then instead of driving back you ride camels to Merzouga, where the driver waits for you. On this day of your Morocco desert tour, we use to go off and uncover the Merzouga region. This area has amazing features and sites that are composed of sand dunes, a lake, mines, fossil areas and beautiful oases. Areas where plenty of outdoor activities can be done.

To start, we begin in Merzouga on our adventure by off-road driving to an ancient eyeliner mine. Then we go and see the nomads in their tent made of cloths. See how they live while drinking Berber tea. Our next target is the Khamlia village where you will witness Gnaoua music and dance performances. Its inhabitants are from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan and Niger. Time to have lunch at a restaurant is reasonably provided. Then we take a walk in a palm erectile grove. Then a drive some few kilometers to wild lake of Merzouga perched flamingos lake. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.

After breakfast, we set off from the desert and make a trip to Rissani town, known as the old capital of Tafilalet region. Rissani is still a big market for the same kind of activities and is dominated by a big souk that comes to the live on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. After exploring the hustles and bustles in the markets of Rissani, we head for Erfoud where we will see how fossils and marbles are carved in one of the workshops.

Then we go on following the line of the Ziz river, we stop to gaze upon Ziz valley. Time at leisure for the lunch at Midelt. After that we reach the home of Barbary Macaques, the cedars forest. You may offer them food while you are strolling in the forest. Then comes Ifrane, known for its cold, snow and houses built in an architecture of the Alps – Yes, it is really the Switzerland of Morocco. At last, we transfer you to your hotel in Fes.

After your morning meal, we come and fetch you from your hotel in Fes in order to go around the fascinating city of Fes. It is also one of the Imperial Cities and a cultural and religious hub of the Kingdom of Morocco.

We begin our tour from one of the ornamental gates of the Royal Palace as usually known. Then the well preserved medieval Medina, which has been enlisted under the World Heritage Sites by UNSECO. Blue gate or in arabic Bab boujloud, is the first entrance gate of the Medina. You will enter the Medina with a local guide. To visit The Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, the Tanneries and finally the Quaraouin mosque and university – probably The Oldest university in the world. After which we exit the Medina in order to explore the Jewish area “the Mellah”.Then we move on to a deserted citadel, from where there are wonderful views to the Medina and the Fes city. Only after returning to your riad.

Once we have had breakfast, we proceed to Meknes, the capital of the Ismaili people and one of the crown cities. During which we visit the following : Bab Al-Mansour, the basin of Sahrij Souani, the Royal stables, the granary and Toul Al-Nadir mausoleum. Leisurely for lunch. Then we travel 30 km from Meknes in order to visit the Volubilis, the throbbing heart of ancient Rome in north Africa. The values of the city Volubilis makes it to be well studied and gazette as one of the World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. There are many splendid mosaics scattered everywhere, as well as old columns and arches.

After exploring the ruins we make our way, through Ouazzane, to the mountain town of Chefchaouen, ‘the blue city’. The city is known for the blue buildings and narrow blue streets. Check into hotel 

After breakfast, depending on your flight time, you can have a free time to move around in the pleasant streets of the blue city, then we pass through the mountain of Rif to reach Tangier to drop you at the airport. End of the morocco tour of 8 days.
