Afterward, we travel to the Cedars Forest, home to playful Barbary macaques. Feel free to feed them as you explore. Our journey continues to Midelt for a lunch break.
We then proceed through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz River to the Sahara Desert. In Merzouga, you’ll swap vehicles for a camel ride across the dunes. Witness a breathtaking sunset atop a towering dune before arriving at the desert camp. Enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a sky full of stars. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp await.
Catch the mesmerizing desert sunrise before breakfast, then return by camel to Merzouga where your driver awaits. Our next stop is Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet, famous for its bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the vibrant market, we head to Erfoud to visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.
We continue through Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves, arriving at the majestic Todra Gorges. The river has carved a spectacular canyon, perfect for rock climbing or simply appreciating the scenery. After a leisurely lunch, we drive to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the unique “monkey fingers” rock formation and a scenic overlook. Dinner and a restful night are at a hotel.
After breakfast, we journey to Kalaa Magouna in the Rose Valley. The annual Rose Festival in May offers a variety of rose products, from perfumes to cosmetics. We then pass through the lush Skoura palm groves and arrive in Ouarzazate, the desert’s gateway, where we explore famous film studios.
Next, we visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, featured in films like Gladiator and TV series like Game of Thrones. Our journey proceeds to Marrakech through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, traversing the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains. Stops for lunch and photo opportunities enhance the drive.
