8-Day Essential Morocco Tour from Marrakech to Fes & Chefchaouen via the Sahara Desert

Join us for an 8-day adventure! You’ll see so many amazing sights. The trip includes the stunning High Atlas mountains, the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, and the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. You won’t want to miss Ouarzazate, Amridil Kasbah, Dades Valley, and Todra Gorges. Plus, explore Merzouga in the Sahara desert. Here, you can ride camels, enjoy magical sunsets & sunrises, and sleep under the stars in a desert camp. We’ll also drive through Merzouga’s dunes in a 4×4 car. Visit the Rissani market and Erfoud, known for its fossils. Then see Ifrane, called the Switzerland of Morocco because of its lovely scenery & cedar forests where Barbary macaques live. In addition, explore Fes and Meknes—two important imperial cities in Morocco—and don’t forget to check out the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Chefchaouen’s beautiful blue buildings. This grand journey ends in Tangier.

Morocco Itinerary: 8 Days Tour from Marrakech

The adventure starts bright & early with a pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Marrakech. After that, we will drive through the beautiful High Atlas mountains and over Tizi-N-Tichka pass. There will be stops to take photos of those breathtaking views! Next up is visiting Telouat Kasbah.

 

Later on, we get to see Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village that UNESCO has recognized as a World Heritage Site. This place has been featured in many movies like Gladiator and The Mummy. A quick note: it’s also part of TV shows like Game of Thrones! Finally, we head to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert.” Dinner awaits us at a cozy hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, we’ll dive into Ouarzazate’s charm. First stop: Atlas Studios—where many famous films were made! Then we’ll visit Taourirt Kasbah—a spectacular mud castle that looks ancient yet marvelous.

 

Moving on eastwards, prepare to be amazed by Amridil Kasbah surrounded by tall palm trees in Skoura! Next, we visit Kalaa Magouna—famous for its lovely Rose Valley (especially during May’s Rose Festival). People come here to buy everything from rose products like perfumes to rose water and oils!

 

Then off we go to Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades! You can’t miss stopping at “monkey fingers” rock formation either! Dinner will be served at our hotel in Boumalne Dades tonight.

 

After a delicious breakfast, wander through Todra Gorges—the river has carved out spectacular canyon walls here! You’ll see high cliffs that are breathtaking!

 

Next up: we’re off through palm groves towards Merzouga desert! Swap your transport for camels as we traverse across sandy dunes. Make sure you grab a moment to enjoy the stunning sunset atop a high dune before heading to your comfy luxury camp.

 

Experience Berber drum music while dancing by the campfire under an incredible starry sky! What an enchanting night it will be!

 

Wake up early—the sunrise in the desert is something you won’t want to miss! After breakfast back at camp, ride camels back to Merzouga where your driver will be waiting for you.

 

Today is all about discovering Merzouga’s wonders—from sand dunes & wild lakes to fascinating oases full of life!

 

We’ll start with an off-road drive to an ancient eyeliner mine and then pay a visit to some nomads living nearby. You can savor traditional Berber tea while hearing about their lives!

 

Next stop is Khamlia village—to enjoy cool Gnaoua music flavors alongside performance dances. The people here come from sub-Saharan countries. Don’t forget lunch at one of the local restaurants before strolling around palm tree groves or visiting the wild lake named after flamingos!

 

Dinner will be waiting for you at your hotel after this exciting day!

 

Breakfast sets us up nicely as we leave behind the sands of the desert and take a trip toward Rissani town—the ancient capital filled with bustling markets! Explore lively souks on Tuesday’s Thursdays & Sundays!

 

After roaming Rissani’s market fun? Head over next is Erfoud—where we’ll check out fossilized marble workshops (just wait till you see all those beauties!).

 

Driving along Ziz river offers stunning views of Ziz valley; let’s stop there too for photos! Around lunchtime time? You’re free to grab something tasty in Midelt before our arrival at Cedars Forest where lovely Barbary Macaques might be!

 

Want some interaction? You can even feed them while wandering about this serene forest!

 

Next up? Ifrane—cozy alpine-style homes make it feel just like Switzerland! Then finally we drop you off at your accommodation when we reach Fes!

Ready for an exciting day? We’ll pick you up after breakfast and dive into exploring Fes—an imperial city that serves as Morocco’s cultural heartbeat!

 

Start visiting Royal Palace’s gate followed closely by stepping into medieval Medina—the whole area is UNESCO World Heritage-listed too! The famous Blue Gate welcomes us inside where local guides are waiting.

 

You get chances today…to explore Medrasa Bouanania followed by Najjarine Fountain & Tanneries ending with one last stop at Quaraouin Mosque—the oldest university worldwide!!

 

After this cultural tour finishes? Let’s pop over next door then meet Jewish Quarter named “Mellah.” Our day ends with panoramic views from an ancient fortress before returning home sweet riad!

After lunch break away from hustle/bustle? Head another thirty kilometers past Meknes towards ancient Roman ruins still standing proud—we call this section Volubilis; yes indeed true beauty lies scattered everywhere among pillars with stunning mosaic work speaking tales long gone past…

 

Once completed stroll through remarkable places built centuries ago—we venture north via Ouazzane reaching charming Chefchaouen nestled among Rif Mountains—they call it Blue City due its unique shade painting throughout buildings around every bend visible here!

 

Another cozy hotel night wraps our joyful experiences together nicely…

Finally arrives today; following breakfast you’ll still possibly enjoy last moments lingering down picturesque pathways filled with vibrant colors around blue city until…drive takes shape heading back over those breathtaking Rif mountains arriving safely toward Tangier airport sending heartfelt goodbyes amongst memories created during these wonderful eight days visiting unbelievable Morocco!!!
